Today marks the start of an outstanding new partnership to help Boone County’s low-income households survive the hot summer and save money on utility bills. This year, VAC, the Columbia Water and Light Department, and Boone Electric are working together on a Window Air Conditioner Exchange Program. This program allows low-income Columbia Water and Light and Boone Electric customers to swap their older, less efficient or broken window air conditioner unit for a new one that is more energy efficient. Without this program, many families in Boone County would have a longer, hotter summer. Now they will be able to stay a lot cooler and have lower utility bills. All of the old air conditioners collected will be disposed of properly and recycled.
The goal of this partnership is to exchange 118 new window air conditioner units to qualifying local utility customers (83 for Columbia Water and Light and 35 for Boone Electric) for their old/broken units.
