Nobody was home at the time of the fire and the home is owned by Carolyn Dinges. Carolyn’s 18 year old daughter and 14 year old son also lived in the home. Chief Pettit also stated that the fire advanced from the living room upwards into the attic and several holes in the roof had to be cut before the fire was finally extinguished. It took firefighters nearly forty-five minutes to bring the fire under control.
Chief Pettit stated that the house suffered heavy damage and estimated damage around $200,000.00. The home is insured. Pettit also noted that the fire started in the living room but the exact cause is unknown at this time. Investigators from the Page County Sheriff’s Dept. are looking to the cause of the blaze.
The fire was discovered by Stanley Fire Dept. President Tommy Davis who lives on the same street and was passing by the residence when he noticed smoke coming from the house. The Shenandoah/Page County branch of the Red Cross is assisting the family with temporary living arrangements.
Twenty firefighters and seven units from the Stanley Fire Dept. responded to the blaze and were on the scene for about three hours. Two Stanley Rescue units also were responded but no injuries were reported. Pettit stated that due to the heat of the fire in the attic and outside temperature teams had to be rotated often so an additional engine company was called from the Luray Fire Dept. to assist. TheStanleyPolice Dept. shut off traffic to Al Good Drive for nearly three hours.
