A Harrisonburg man is in the hospital after being hit by a cab in the early morning hours Sunday (3/1).

Police are not prepared to release the name of the victim or the cab company involved.

Harrisonburg police responded to Route 11, near Mosby Rd. just after 1 a.m. Sunday (3/1) morning. There, they found a man who had been hit by a cab in the street. Police say his injuries at the scene were severe. The victim was taken to RMH and later transported to UVA Medical.

Preleminary reports show the cab driver was heading south on S. Main St. (Rt. 11) when the man ran out in front of the car. The driver swerved to the left, center lane but hit the man.

Officers from Harrisonburg, the Rockingham County Sheriff's office and the Dayton Police department responded to the scene. Traffic was blocked from Pleasant Hill Rd. to Mosby Rd. on Route 11. Officers were seen inspecting a white cab in front of the McDonalds on S. Main St.
