A brush fire in Southwest Roanoke County, spurred by winds with gusts of 60mph or more, helps ring in the new year. The terrain around the 12 0'clock Knob area is making it hard for the firefighters to reach the fire. So, we have shuttled my 2 youngest children to their grandmothers, for health reasons, as we sit and watch the smoke rise and the sun set.
