National Night Out - August 4th
Evansville To Join Cities Nationwide for
'America's Night Out Against Crime'

On Tuesday, August 4th, citizens throughout Evansville are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the "26th Annual National Night Out" (NNO) crime and drug prevention event.
National Night Out is designed to (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Last year, 37 million people from 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world participated. NNO is supported by the National Association of Town Watch, Target, and the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance. Evansville's National Night Out events ranked 8th in the nation last year in Category 2 which is made up of cities with a population between 100,000 - 299,000.
In Evansville, three police sectors work with neighborhood and business leaders to put on this event. From 6 to 9 p.m. on August 4th, residents in neighborhoods throughout Evansville are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.
We invite citizens to join us at Akin Park, Garvin Park, or Lorraine Park to Give Crime & Drugs A Going Away Party. Each site will have free food, entertainment, games and anti-crime educational materials to share with the community. This is truly a community effort to let the criminals know that crime is not welcome here.

Contacts: Akin Park - Bill Currie, 425-1598
Garvin Park - Linda Jones, 435-6115
Lorraine Park - Susan Harp, 477-1142
