Where to Find Help When You Need It

With the current economic crisis and massive layoffs, many Oklahoma residents are being forced to turn to government agencies, community organizations and their local churches for help just to make ends meet. Below is a partial listing of agencies that may be able to help those in need with various types of assistance.

Dial 211

211 is a resource line for human services available in your area – (alternative number: (580) 355-7575) www.211.org. 211 is funded by the United Way.

Help with Housing

H.U.D. - Provides help with rent or housing. Visit their website at www.hud.gov or call 405/609-8509.

Help with Prescription Medications

Rx 4 Oklahoma is for the uninsured, underinsured or those with low income and helps Oklahomans access prescription assistance programs provided by pharmaceutical manufacturing companies – call 877/RX4-OKLA (877/794-6552) or visit their website at www.rx4okla.com.

Help with Food

Contact your local Dept. of Human Services Office DHS has a program for emergency help as well as long term help through the Federal Food Stamp Program, now called SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program).

Angel Food Program – monthly food boxes for $30 designed to feed a family of four for a week. No income restrictions and you can purchase multiple boxes each month. For the host site nearest you, call them at 888-819-3745 or visit their website at www.angelfoodministries.org. Their website also posts the current month’s menu.
Local churches often assist with emergency food as well as clothing.

Help for Specialized Groups

Persons 60 years old and older

Provides various services for persons who are 60+ including eyeglass assistance, hearing aids, low-cost prescription programs, transportation, housing, legal services, long-term care, Medicare, nutrition, healthcare, housekeeping, weatherization, and other concerns of the elderly - find your local office on http://www.okdhs.org/programsandservices/aging/aaa/docs/contact.htm.

Veterans

Call 800/342-9647 or visit their website at www.nationalresourcedirectory.org for information on the various types of assistance available for veterans.

i recently lost my job due to it being a seasonal jo and i have been looking for a job ever since but i have not found anything. I really do not know what the answer is but i do ot believe that god intended for it to be this hard to survive.

i am also a muscian and i play the piano, i sing, i have played with bands in the past and i also play the organ and i really do not believe that it should be this hard to survive.
