The George Washington Geckos improved to a 2-1 record last night in girls high school volleyball after defeating the John F. Kennedy Islanders 25-10 and 25-21. The Geckos Mariana Quinata served 8 straight points early in the 1st set to give her team a commanding 8-0 lead. A couple of offensive violations and errors from the Islanders helped the Geckos clinch the 25-10 1st set win.

The 2nd set was a slight difference as the Islanders went neck to neck with the Geckos, keeping the game within reach, but it was the Lady Geckos who would hold on strong and take the 2nd set 25-21.

In football over at the GW Field, the Father Duenas Friars improved their record to 2-0 after defeating JFK 27-6 in Week 2 of the IFL season. Benjamin Cruz's 90-yard kickoff return in the begininng of the game was the only score the Islanders would have throughout the entire game. Friars quarterback Will Williams had 2 touchdowns under his name while teammates Paul Calvo and Forrest Gourley each had 1 touchdown. Action continues tonight with the Simon Sanchez Sharks taking on GW at 7pm at the GW field.

Now for some running action, 80 runners came out early this morning at the Ypao Beach for the 33rd Annual Ypao Two Lovers Point 8.6-mile race. Guam's olympian Derrek Mandell finished 1st overall with a time of 51.28. Sung Ja Ahn set a new women's record with a time of 56:39, while Marie Benito broke the women's master record of a time of 61:36.
