While our family was out of town our beloved 12 yr. old female Vizlsa got away. On March 18th our pet sitter came to put our 2 dogs to bed inside & found only one remaining. She saw that the front gate to our yard near 22nd place & Delaware had been left open. Our dog sitter believes Shiner Girl got out between 7-9pm after a work person left our gate ajar. The dog sitter did a search on foot & in her car for Shiner. She also called our Vet & the shelter to warn them that Shiner was missing. Not wanting to ruin our vacation or because whe didn't know what we could do from our location, our sitter didn't inform us Shiner was still missing until the following Sunday via text message at 9pm, while we were boarding a plane. We were not in our town, we weren't permitted to use phones or computers on board & our dog Shiner had been gone for 4 days! I was horrified & devastated. This skiddish Hungarian Pointer is lean, fast & a good sniffer. No doubt her head start to the streets is what has prevented us from finding her once we took to them with our posters, flyers & photos. If anyone is ever in this situation the web is a remarkable tool to use even when away. There were websites that had free postings for lost dogs (pet911.com; tulsapets.com, petfinder.com) Also, there is a service that you can pay which will send an automated phone message about your lost pet to 100 or more people in your area (lostmydoggie.com). It is amazing what we could have done away from home but were not aware. This lapse in time & lack of information is definately what we attribute to not retrieving our dog yet. However, Shiner is implanted with a microchip which is read/used by any shelter or Vet if brought in to help identify her. We have had some sightings by people in our neighborhood both before & after the recent hail & snow storms. We remain cautiously hopeful but still saddened by Shiner's absence. Shiner is resourceful & may still be alive but we need help to bring her home. Please call with any information 918-691-3171

Shiner was found at local shelter after 4 1/2 weeks of being missing. The director herself tracked us down to give us the news. Shiner is now home, healthy, safe & sound.
