It's a castle! It's a sea serpent! It's a mushroom! It's a condensation topiary! In a state where climbing clouds often mean severe weather, it's interesting to note that some of the most interestingly shaped clouds occur in fair weather.

One of my favorite pastimes growing up was watching the clouds drift overhead on hot summer days. I remember talking on the phone with a girlfriend a couple of miles away. We would discuss the clouds we could both see. We were best friends, and the sky was our connection, even when we couldn't be together physically.

Those vast channels of wind and moisture, caught up in jet streams and warm air masses are the same ones that were inhaled by lungs and felt on faces on the other side of the planet. We relate to the vast weather matrix. If a typhoon hits, we are ready to jump to the rescue. Tornados? No problem! We'll send aid! In some small way, the weather has touched all of our lives.

So next time one of those fair weather clouds drift by and it looks like a rabbit with a long tail, remember that there's someone on the other side of town who is reminded of a rhinocerous by the same cluster of water droplets, arranged by the wind for our enjoyment.
