Grace's 1st fishin' trip

Location: Northeast of Wetumka, Ok., Hughes County
We visited some old friends/neighbors in early June '08 to see if we could get a picture of Grandaughter's first fish. This is in NE Hughes county, near Wetumka. we fished in our neighbor Poley's farm pond. Grace is 8 yrs. old and this was her first fishing trip. We had been fishing pretty steady for an hour or so & Grace was beginning to get discouraged. I was just taking her up to the house for a bathroom break when Poley hollered that she had a bite. As we turned around all we could see was her rod going underwater heading away from shore.
Luckily, the rod had a floating handle and popped back up so that a quick thinking Poley could just reach and grab it. He handed it to Grace and she proceeded to land her first fish. She of course, is forever in Poley's debt for snatching her rod back from the depths of Poley's pond. Submitted by Graces' PAPA, Claude Benham
