I took this photo on May 3, 1999. A day that us oklahomans remember because an F5 tornado showed us how deadly and scary they can be when it goes through a populated area. I follwed the events of that day, and watched the storm as it travelled up I-44 towards Tulsa. When it finally hit Tulsa I watched the tornado as it passed over the river and then dissapated. I was at 67th and lewis when the tornado went just to the north of me. It was a ghostly white when I saw it. It was actually quite pretty. This photo was taken later that evening as the storm was dying. I have always found lightning fascinating and beautiful... and scary all at the same time. I have been within 50 feet of a ground strike and had limbs and bark, from a tree, shower me. Believe me that will give you respect for the power of a lightning strike, as well as, giving you the status of your bodily functions. This is just a reminder, even though beautiful, lighting is dangerous and should be respected when it is in the area. After all only flash floods and river floods out number lightning in weather-related deaths.
