Truth or Consequences is the site of New Mexico's FIRST EVER group Valentine's Day Vow Renewal AND Wedding Ceremonies. Since the courthouses are closed, T or C has decided to make BOTH ceremonies FREE TO ALL, with donations greatly appreciated, as both events are a fundraiser for Desert Haven Animal Refuge, a non-euthanasia facility. The Wedding Ceremony originally was designed with a set fee, but in light of the economy, the ceremony is free to all. Couples must bring their NM marriage license with them. Witnesses will be provided, and select vendors will offer small bouquets for the brides, as well as chocolates and hot dogs at the site. The gazebo at Ralph Edwards Park, which sits on the banks of the Rio Grand River, will be festively decorated with a Valentine's theme, and there is also a Tea Dance Reception happening just blocks away. Phone 575-894-7591 or 575-740-3889 for more info. Both events are sponsored in part by New Mexico Arts and Sierra County Arts Council lodgers tax funds. Since Feb 14th is also the night of T or C's monthly Art Hop, we recommend advance lodging reservations for those who wish to stay overnight and perhaps book a soak at one of 10 bath houses offering natural hot springs water. More info can be found online at the Dept of Tourism's website www.newmexico.com or www.new-mexico-ceremonies.com. We are in the process of updating them to reflect the FREE, donations only status of BOTH events.
