A pro-choice man brutally attacked a pro-life sidewalk counselor outside an Albuquerque Planned Parenthood abortion clinic today. Phillip Leahy, who has ministered for many years outside various Albuquerque abortion clinics, was attacked with a baseball bat while attempting to provide information and options to people entering the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic.

Leahy was in a public street, standing on a scaffolding in order to be able to speak to people on the other side of the wall that surrounds the abortion clinic. Sources say that a man brought a girl into the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic, then drove his car around to the alley, got out, approached Leahy and swung at him with a baseball bat.

It is unknown currently whether the man struck Leahy with the bat. In any event, the scaffold was struck and the pro-life activist was knocked to the ground. Witnesses report that Leahy appeared to be in great pain before an ambulance arrived to take him to the UNM Hospital Emergency Room.

Father Stephen Imbarrato, chaplain of Project Defending Life, a local pro-life activist group, accompanied Leahy to the hospital. "I anointed Phil and the priest chaplain brought him communion," said Imbarrato. "We're waiting now for the results of the x-rays. Most likely, Phil has a broken right shoulder and hip. He is in a lot of pain."

Police said they could not interview the girl the perpetrator dropped off due to doctor-patient confidentiality but indicated that they have a "good idea" of who the assailant is. No arrest has been made yet.

So the supposed assailant not only drove his car past so a GROUP of protesters could identify it, then dropped a woman off inside the clinic--another witness--and then in broad daylight, hit a man with a baseball bat? Yeah.

God bless the old man for his efforts. If I was presented with options, I might have made a different choice.

If this is going to be tagged as "anti-choice" then I think it needs to also be tagged as "anti-life". Not only is abortion "anti-life", but hitting an innocent, peaceful man is also very "anti-life".

I'm a friend of Phillip and visited him tonight. He said the scaffolding collapsed when the assailant hit the ladder that held it with a bat. He's in a wheelchair now and has difficulty getting out, but quite miraculously has no broken bones.

A pro-life site has info about Phillip's recovery. Sounds like he's doing well. http://defendinglife.org/pro-life_news/abortion_news/pro-life_victim_of_violence_recovering.html Sad and sick that pro-choice people doubt this story.

It is really sad that other news stations have not covered this. I am a aquaintance of Phillip and he cannot hurt an ant let alone a man with a bat! The citizens of ABQ should be flocking to his aid and standing with him in his fight for life!

God bless him. Someone has to fight for and/or defend the unborn. People should know they have options.
