Butch was born sometime in the spring of 1994, and passed away on
November 17, 2008 at roughly 9:15 a.m. He was fourteen and one half.
We got him from the Animal Humane Association Clinic on Virginia Street, S.E., in Albuquerque, NM. That was in August, 1998.
He was part Chow, and the other part, no one knew. He sure had a nice disposition though.
We found out right away that Butch was real nice around young children and very tolerant of just
about everything.
He loved to go for long walks in the near-by park, and had to mark his new territory daily. At least until another dog came along.
He never paid much attention to dogs he passed on the way, sort of acting aloof, like most Chow dogs do.
He also had a real good appetite, and loved his dog food with a hot dog chopped up in it. He also loved to test our food for us, and made sure he was in on licking out our dishes!
All the time we had him, he never had any accidents in the house. He was very clean.
He loved to ride in cars and wanted to be with us all the time.
His final year plagued him with a hip dysplasia. He didn't seem to be in any pain, and he loved his daily massages.
He died peacefully at his favorite spot in the house, in his sleeping position, placing his head down
between his two front paws. I was there and kept petting him, not
really knowing the actual time he went, since it was so peaceful. Even
in death, he looked as though he was simply sleeping.
He loved to go on trips with us, but this one was for him only. I feel he left me behind, but he couldn’t help it. I feel lost and lonely without him. I miss taking care of him and doing all the daily stuff to make him comfortable.

Butch was so cute and this story very heart rendering. We all have to go sometime but no time is a good one. In time, the sharpness of loss will be dimmed, and you will find happiness with another great animal such as Butch.

This was a nice story and reminds me of some of our pets gone, but not forgotten. We have to move on and adopt other pets and get them out of those ugly dog pounds, especially the main one our city provides.

Bless Butch and he will see nice days in Paradise. Hope we can all see him there. Give dog fod to the Animal Humane Society this Thanksgiving or Christmas, or both!!

Re: Butch: We also love Chow dogs. We never had a bad one yet, and they are so loveable. I hate to think when it will be their time to go. It will be a sad day in the Hanson household for sure!!

I'm sorry for your loss -- thanks for sharing your story. It brought a flood of memories back of a wonderful dog we had an lost recently. It seems those Humane Society seem so appreciative and become the greatest dogs!

Butch was a beautiful dog and I am sorry he is gone. I am viewing from out of New Mexico, but this story can be repeated all over the country. Yes, help support your local Animal Humane Society. Your help is neded since they are only funded by donors

This is just a note to say we still love and miss Butch after 2 and 1/2 weeks after his passing. God bless him! He will never be forgotten.

This is such a wonderful story of a beautiful dog. More people should adopt pets for they will give you years of wonderful companionship. God bless Butch and we will see him in heaven some day.
