Mexican wolf

The Aspen pack pack wolves were removed on December 4 due to massive livestock depredation. There has been little to no compliance with the three depredation regulation SOP 13, before removal of problem wolves. It is not unusual for unlimited livestock kills to be allowed before killer wolves are removed.
This single pack of 7 wolves comitted 9 confirmed kills in October and November on the Adobe Ranch south of Magdalena NM and were also responsible for 9 missing yearlings not to mention the numerous baby calves killed consumed and never found. These events occured after another ranch was subjected to 3 confirmed kills that should have let to permanent removal of this pack. To date none of the Nov and Dec kills have been paid for by Defenders of Wildlife.
This is a common occurance allowance of up to 13 confirmed and dozens of unconfirmable kills before management is implemented.
You can call Gene Whetten Adobe ranch manager at 575-772-5515 or Laura Schneberger Gila Livestock Growers asso at 575-772-5753 for more and realistic information. Not getting the local story out is extremely damaging to local interests affected by this prograam. None of us have access to media and we do not have the funds for polling. FWS will not tell the truth about the programs impacts on the people of Grant, Catron and Sierra counties or the victims in Arizona. Becuase these are rural communities does that mean they can be impacted without due process or media exposure of their situation?

Thanks for showing the other side of the wolf situation. Most urbanites have no idea what is really going on because they are constantly and intentionally misinformed about the situation. Professionals paid to distort in government and enviro NGOs.

Thanks for a bit of truth! The wolf lovers that prey on the uninformed but well meaning, will have a hard time gettin' past this one. Its time the American people found out that they are being duped and that its rural people that are endangered.

Thank you KOB for this article. The people who do not live with the wolves in thier back yard cannot comprehend the ways our lives have changed since we have the wolves here. We have been tolerant of this program and our patince is wearing thin.

What I find interesting is the video on the news by the HSUS on what they see as cow torture at feed yards, where are they on this issue? They are supportive of this kind of cow torture.

Molly is absolutely correct! Most people do not know the truth. They only hear the spin from our radical environmental friends that portray the people, who live in the rural areas around the Blue Range Wolf Recovery Area, as ignorant wolf-haters.

thank you KOB. There are many sides to this story. What is happening in rural backyards needs to made clear to those with urban backyards. Did an imbalance in the predator/prey releationship in Gila lead to the human lion kill last week?

Thank you to your TV station for allowing us to speak out. We have had our voices drowned for too many years by the urban citizens who haven't a clue what the real truth is. This wolf isn't a high altitude, forest animal and it NEVER lived here.

Joleen's comment about the feed yards is correct, but it is just like a egocentric wildlife (wolf) lover to distort the facts and try to minimize the fact that we here in Catron Country are having to deal with these animals. I don't eat beef either!

I would like to see the next SOP by the gov't clarify the term depredation when in fact it is a blatant destructive killing of peoples hopes, dreams, way of life and any future hope. Call it like it is . . . removal of civilians from private lands.

That will never happen wayne, in the 82 recovery plan it specifically says, they will get rid of ranchers by legal or other methods. This isn't a direct quote but it is there and I will look for it. That is the goal anyway. Get rid of ranchers.

99 out of 100 people do not know how a wolf makes a kill. Wolves do not kill outright, be it wildlife of livestock. Wolves capture by running and biting that stresses the animal down, it cannot move or stand. The animal dies from the act of feeding.

If the average taxpayer was subjected to this kind of blatant taking of private property by the federal government and violation of civil rights ,our elected officials would be getting an ear full.

Thanks to the media and individuals who have carried the factual story of the wolf program-- it's terrible cost to the taxpayer, the devastation it's bringing to livestock producers, and the physical menace it is to the general public.
