Nebraska Youth Activists to Participate In Demonstrations at Philip Morris International Shareholder Meeting Tuesday, May 5

Three youth activists and members of No Limits, Nebraska's youth-led tobacco prevention movement, traveled to New York City, NY to join thousands of other youth activists from across the country in protests at the annual shareholders meeting of Philip Morris International on Tuesday, May 5. The youth are protesting to hold Philip Morris International accountable for targeting youth around the world and for the rising global toll of death and disease caused by the company's products. They traveled to New York City to represent the voices of tobacco control advocates who cannot join them in-person.

Event details are as follows:

*Who: Nebraska teens from Lincoln East High School, Crofton High School and Ord High School.

*What: Activism at the 2009 Philip Morris International shareholders meeting

*When: Tuesday, May 5, 2009 - Youth demonstration to begin at 7:15 a.m. EDT, as shareholders arrive to the meeting. Event will feature photo opportunities.

*Where: Outside the Grand Hyatt - New York, 109 E. 42nd Street, New York, NY

*Why: To raise awareness that Philip Morris International, through the marketing of its products to teenagers in the United States and developing countries, is a leading global killer.

These young people should be commended. It takes a lot of guts to travel all that way and take a stand as they did. It remindes me of David and Goliath. Kudos!
