October 11-17, 2009, marks National Case Management Week, an annual celebration recognizing the contributions and commitments health care case managers make and designed to educate the public about the significant work they perform.
Activities during National Case Management Week typically include banquets and recognition dinners, state and city proclamations, continuing education seminars, and other community events. Case Managers are typically honored with gifts, dinners, and flowers by friends and family members, coworkers such as doctors and administrators, and patients who want to show their appreciation.
The event was begun several years ago by the Case Management Society of America, a professional society for health care case managers based in Little Rock, AR, and serving more than 11,000 members, 20,000 subscribers, and 70 chapters throughout the U.S. CMSA offers educational forums, networking opportunities, legislative advocacy and establishing standards to advance the profession. Founded in 1990, CMSA has grown to be the leading non-profit association dedicated to the support and development of the profession of case management.
