These are pictures from December of 2008 in Waltham, MN and January of 2009 in Hollandale, MN of sun dogs captured by some ABC6 viewers. Sun dogs are a kind of mirror image of the sun making it look like there are a couple more suns on each side of the real sun. Unfortunately, they don't ever seem to warm us up! The cause of these reflections is the combination of the sun be at a certain angle in the sky and tiny ice crystals floating in the atmostphere that are all postitioned just right to reflect the sun creating the sun dogs.
