Yes it's a dog, no it's not a plush bird

We entered Belle and Pepper in the costume contest at the Canine Carnival in Ocean Beach, California.

Pepper is my black and white reindeer chihuahua. She always likes to be on the shoulder and I realized that she would make a PERFECT parrot. The pirate theme has become very popular, so I made Pepper's costume as a parrot, She loved it! I made her a hood that had bird eyes on it and she wore leggings on her front legs that looked like bird legs. Her wings have many layers of felt to look like feathers. The hood even has a beak! Everyone couldn't believe that she was a real dog. They thought she was a prop for my husband, who was dressed as a pirate. When she barked or moved people just loved it!

I also dressed up Belle my tri-color sable sheltie as a pirate wench. She had a poofy skirt that had skull lace and she had a gold corset look to her top. She enjoyed it.

It was a lot of fun watching them parade down the costume route. Both of my dogs and my husband had SO much fun for this event! It was a lot of fun creating & designing the costumes as well!!
